Clime Wines: Label Design

Project: Wine label art & design

Role: Artist & Designer

Clime Wines, a husband and wife team, produces ultra small lot wines traditionally handmade in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Grapes are sourced from unique, sustainably managed vineyards throughout California.

The Project

Clime Wines approached me to create one wine label design for their new batch of wine. They had seen some of my artwork on Instagram and liked the abstract style I was working with. We found we had similar aesthetic tastes through a shared Pinterest board, and with that in mind I created a series of abstract sketches. Clime Wines loved all of the sketches and decided to expand their scope to include four wine label designs, plus a fifth for a future bottle.

The Process

The Clime Wines design project was one of my favorite design projects of 2018. I used alcohol based markers and rubbing alcohol to create a watercolor effect on Japanese rice paper. As I laid down colors on the paper, I would photograph the sketch at various stages.
